Locating suitable areas for mangrove afforestation in the Sirik habitat, Hormozgan Province
Authors
Abstract:
Nowadays finding of ecologically suitable place or places for any activity, is one of the most important steps in the plan implementation. Roughly 94% of the net area of mangrove habitats in Iran is located in Hormozgan province which is the only place in south coast of the country that two species of mangrove trees grow naturally. In recent decades, biological reclamation and reforestation of mangrove species (grey mangrove and loop-root or red mangrove) was one of the most important projects in the natural resources management department of the province. The purpose of this study was to locate suitable areas for biological reclamation and reforestation of mangrove species using GIS and is based on ecological criteria. In this regard, after identifying variables influencing on the establishment of the species from the point of view of experts, 10 variables were selected and used. Assessment and classification of environmental parameters affecting the biological regeneration of mangrove forests using the Delphi method and fuzzy evaluation was performed according to the Kriging method because of the lower prediction error. Among the different fuzzy operators such as ::::union::::, intersection, addition, multiplication and algebraic gamma phase in the end, the addition operator provided the best adapted results to identify suitable areas for reforestation and biological restoration projects with higher success rates.

Identifying suitable mangrove habitats at the local scale for mangrove afforestation in southern Iran
Afforestation has been one of the most effective measures to compensate for mangrove ecosystem loss across the world and requires a detailed understanding of all contributing hydrological and physico-chemical factors affecting their growth. In this study, the Maxent habitat suitability model was employed to identify suitable mangrove habitats in the Hara Roud-e Gaz Protected Area. Presence da...
full textLocating Suitable Areas for Groundwater Recharge Using GIS and WLC (Qorveh Plain in Kurdistan Province)
In recent decades, the ever-increasing population, human needs, and changes in the consumption patterns of societies require the planning and management of water resources more than ever. Among the management strategies of underground water resources, we can point out the compensation of these resources through artificial nutrition and exploitation according to the capacity of aquifers. The stu...
full textDetermination of suitable areas for reforestation and afforestation with indigenous species
To be successful in tree establishment, an assessment of land suitability would be necessary. The aim of this study was determining the potential habitats of three native tree species (Quercus persica, Pistacia atlantica, Amygdalous scoparia) in Siahkoh region of Ilam County, using Boolean method and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). For this regard, the slope, aspect and hypsometric maps o...
full textInvestigation of long-term mangrove and saltmarsh area changes in the Iranian mangrove habitats (Case study: mangroves of Hormozgan province)
In general, investigation of changes occurred in the area of mangrove and saltmarshes indicates the balance between these two ecosystems and plays an important role in providing necessary solutions to maintain their ecosystem services. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the expanse of mangroves and saltmarshes in the mangrove habitats of Hormozgan province during a l...
full textEvaluation of a Terrain Attribute Model for Locating Areas Suitable for Grassed Waterways in Agricultural Settings
Grassed waterways placed in high water flow zones substantially reduce erosion in agricultural fields. A recent study proposed a statistical model for waterway planning for a farm in the Outer Bluegrass physiographic region of Kentucky. The logistic regression model identified where channel erosion was likely to occur based on elevation-derived terrain attributes. The objective of this study wa...
